Exploration Photography Daily View - September 30, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Seeing as I have nothing new to share today I thought I would go back into my archives and find something there. And what did I find? Another squirrel! Surprised? No, I didn't think so.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Well folks it's getting late and this is going to be quick. And for some reason I was having a difficult time choosing a photo to share. So I went through my archives and found this squirrel from August.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 28, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

I am still going through some vacation pics and doing so found this guy that I thought you might like. This was in Cocoa Beach Florida.

I thought this was an unusual looking seagull. Maybe it's a mix? Perhaps part seagull and part pigeon? I don't know but when he walked my way I knew I should grab some shots.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 27, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Now that I've shared my vacation snapshots with you I would like to go back and show you some of my more serious photos. And what better place to start than the place we visited on our first full day in Florida. Lake Louisa State Park. Who's up for some swamp?

I'm sure there may have been an alligator or two but I didn't see any. But there was a lot of frogs, turtles and a ton of spiders. And lots and lots of lizards.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 25, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Okay, today I am wrapping up my snapshots from our trip to Florida. And what better to share than a whole bunch of pictures from South Of The Border? So sit back, relax and enjoy a little bit of Roadside America at it's finest.

Whew! I told you it would be a bunch. I think they are pretty much self explanatory but I will give my thoughts of this must see destination.

This was my second time visiting South Of The Border. The last time was over twenty years ago back in the 1990's. But to tell the truth I don't remember a whole lot about it. I do remember that at that time I did not purchase fireworks due to the fact that we were on a cross country drive to California. I didn't want to take any chances. Plus we didn't spend a lot of time there. We had a lot of highway ahead of us. I do remember that it was a little cleaner and a little less run down. Oh, it's not terrible now but it sure is not what it used to be. And it is still a piece of Roadside America. A place that existed before the Interstate System at a time when travel took a lot longer. Back then diversions were almost a necessity. But as time marched on and people became busier and more impatient many of these places folded up. Which to me is a shame. And that's why I say this is a must see if you happen to be traveling I-95 through the Carolinas. Yes, it's tacky. But it's an American classic at the same time.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 24, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Today I would like to show you some more snapshots from our recent trip to Florida. This time we take a look at some of the sites along the way during our trip home.

Welcome to Georgia.

You never know what you will see at a welcome center.

Here we have the smallest church in America. You can read about it here. I would like to note that if you decide to visit late at night that it can be a little scary. The mile long stretch leading up to the church from I-95 is very dark and secluded. I recommend the use of a GPS because it is easy to miss. And I would be lying if I said it wasn't a little spooky. It's very lonely out there. Plus the sign warning you not to give money to people on the premises is kind of off putting. I asked the clerk at a local gas station about it and he said there is occasionally homeless people there.

We made it to South Carolina.

South Of The Border is possibly the most famous attraction along I-95 in South Carolina. While it is not what it was during it's prime it is still a great place to check out. Especially if you are on the hunt for fireworks.

And here we are in North Carolina. About one mile north of South Of The Border. I must say that the North Carolina Welcome Center is among the finest of welcome centers I have ever visited. And I have seen a lot of them.

Here we have what I call the North Carolina Welcoming Committee. Southern hospitality with an avian touch.

Here comes the rain.

Welcome to Virginia.

Yep, the Virginia Welcome Center. I'm not kidding. This is it. Okay, in their defense they are constructing a new building to house what will be a nice and I am sure state of the art welcome center.

And here is a couple more from the road. We didn't really stop at many welcome centers after Virginia

And there you have it. I think I have shown you most of my snapshots. Though I do have a bunch from South Of The Border, Maybe I'll share them in my next post.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 21, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

It is often said that getting there is half the fun. And I believe this to be true. That is why Kim and I drove to Florida earlier this month instead of flying. And though it was a long drive I am really glad we did it. But there was one small monkey wrench tossed into the works.

The day we set out on the road happened to be the same day a hurricane decided to travel straight up the I-95 corridor. The route we were supposed to travel. But luckily we had a second option that would only add an hour or so to the trip. So instead of 14 - 15 hours of windshield time we had closer to 16 hours. Not too bad. And doing this we did not see one drop of rain or any wind from the hurricane. Oh we did see rain after entering Florida but it was unrelated. It was however bad rain. Very, very bad rain. But we made it.

For today's photo(s) I am continuing with my snapshots. And the subject is our journey south. These were all taken as we traveled along I-81 and I-77.

Truthfully except for the one with the Welcome to Florida sign I am not sure what state they represent. I mean highway is highway pretty much. But like I said, at least it was a pleasant drive.
