Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Kim and I finally made it to the ocean today after about five weeks of camping. The weather forecast called for a rainy day but it turned out to be sunny and very warm so we decided to take a drive to Wildwood and drive up the coast to Stone Harbor Point. And that is where I shot today's view. This is along the walking trail from the parking lot to the nature beach. This particular beach does not allow swimming and has sections closed off to protect wildlife.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It's time once again for a Friday Schnitzel picture so let's get right to it. I shot this shortly after we got to the camper tonight. Schnitzel was resting up after an hour and a half of nervous panting on the drive down. He's not really a good passenger.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Over the last few days I have been playing around with my new camera phone but that doesn't mean I have forgotten about my regular DSLR. And yesterday afternoon I took it out to the cafe to grab a few squirrel pictures. For today's view I would like to share this one.

After getting some yard work done this afternoon I spent a little time playing around with my phone. And for today's view I would like to share a couple dandelion shots I made. A before and after. Sort of.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

In addition to running some errands today I have been playing around with the new phone. Particularly the camera. The camera after all is how I based my phone purchase. I must say that there is a lot to learn. On the surface the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra shoots excellent photos using standard auto settings. But when you look deeper you see there is so much potential for creativity. I'll be doing a lot of reading and a lot of experimenting and it's gonna be fun! I hope to have lots to share with you in the coming days. And speaking of sharing here is today's view. This is a new daisy for our outside garden we purchased over the weekend. I shot this at the camper before we left for home.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

We have been to the camper for I think four weekends in a row now and of course as you probably know the camper is only a few miles from the ocean. Oddly though we haven't been out to the ocean yet. But that doesn't mean we haven't seen any ocean related wildlife. Take seagulls for example. We see tons of them. And today I recorded a few snapshots while in a McDonald's parking lot so I could share one for today's view. On a side note I shot this with my new phone. A Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. I think the camera in this phone is gonna be a lot of fun. Stay tuned.

It's a chilly night down here at the camper so what better way to spend it than to sit around a campfire? Kim and I and a friend from next door did just that. And for today's view I would like to share the campfire with you.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It's Friday and that means it's time for another Friday Schnitzel picture. Here we see him in one of his favorite napping spots. On the floor in front of the couch in our camper. A good place to be on a rainy Friday night. The camper that is.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's view is of one of our younger squirrels up a tree. Our oak tree that is. He ran up there after grabbing a peanut from a pile I had just put out. Maybe he just wanted to eat in privacy and away from the bluejays. Or perhaps he social distancing?

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

With the nicer weather we have been having I have been spending a little more time outside in the afternoons. Today I spent it taking snapshots of the many wildflowers that have popped up this year. What I think happened is that when I was planting a wildflower garden last year some of the seeds went airborne and spread throughout the area. Today's view is one of these wild, wildflowers.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I shot today's view when I was photographing in the Cafe yesterday. We have always had bluejays but since I put up this feeder last Summer we seem to see a lot more. So much so that I had to start buying more peanuts. In fact a lot of birds I never knew ate peanuts take advantage of the feeder. That's okay though because they are all welcome.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Kim and I are home from the camper and I can't believe how fast the weekend went. When we got home I had a lot of yard work to do and the weather didn't look so good so I got started right away. Luckily the rain held off and I got done. In fact we didn't get any real rain at all. Just a few spritzes. After the yard work it was time to tend to the cafe. I had to fill the feeders and bird baths and put some suet out. And it sure didn't take long for visitors to show up. I took advantage and grabbed my camera to shoot a few frames. For today's view I would like to share one with you.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Kim and I spent a good amount of time today hunting down a few things we needed for the campsite. Primarily we were looking for a screen house. Oddly enough they seem to be very hard to come by at the moment. At last anything less than $400. But we finally got what we were looking for and it's all set up. But anyway when we arrived back at camp we saw a group of ducks walking along the road. And for today's view I would like to share a snapshot of them.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's throwback is from May 14, 2017 and it's subject is one of my favorites. My favorite tree that is. I probably have a few hundred shots of it and hope to do more soon. I was thinking of reprocessing this black and white but for now I am sharing it as is. You can see my original post if you Click Here.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's view was shot with my thrift store Sony camera. I was playing around with it yesterday shooting bluejays and squirrels at the Cafe and really like the way this photo came out. Not quite the quality of my DSLR but not bad at all. I can see me using this camera more and more. Especially in situations where I need a long lens but need to travel light.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I buy a lot of cameras. Mostly film cameras from the 80's and 90's but I also have a lot older and newer than that. Prices vary but every once in a while I'll come across a real bargain. Today's view was shot with a bargain. I shot it with a Sony DSC-HX200V. Top of the line? Maybe not. But it is packed with features including a 30x Optical Zoom that is equivalent to about 810mm and GPS. The settings include AUTO, Time Value, Aperture Value and Full Manual in addition to some other modes. It came in it's original box and I got it for less than $50.00. On the downside it only saves images in JPG format with no RAW option but it's still pretty nice. The photo I am sharing is a shot of the Moon. Considering that I shot this hand held without a tripod I think it came out pretty good. Next time I'll mount it properly.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Kim and I are back home from the camper on what turned out to be a very nice day. It warmed up nicely and is sunny. When we got home we were able to spend a little time outside and I of course had my camera. My plan was to grab a few squirrel shots but as I scanned the yard I saw this cat bird sitting on our bench. I've seen a few cat birds and have heard them but this was my first opportunity to shoot one. They are one of my favorite seasonal birds.

Kim and I spent most of our day cleaning and setting up our campsite. This included shoveling and raking 4 tons of stone we had delivered this morning. When we were done I looked down and saw this tiny pine cone and thought it would be great for today's view. And it really is tiny at about an inch and a half long.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Throwback Thursday View - 7 May 2020 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's throwback is from May 8, 2017 and the subject about 238,900 Miles from Earth. I am talking about the Moon of course. Though it doesn't change in appearance a whole lot the Moon is still one of my favorite things to photograph. That's not to say it doesn't change however. In fact I often think about comparing shots I have made throughout the years to see if I can spot differences. Might be fun. You can Click Here to see my original post.

I shot today's view the same day I shot the lilies that I shared yesterday. It was nice and bright but cloudy and the clouds along with the pink flowers on our dogwood make this a nice scene. And what scene isn't better with a squirrel anyway?

Today's view is a before and after of some lilies we planted a few weeks ago. Though the "before' is one set and the "after" is another. They aren't opening at the same time. We have them in pots by our front door and some planted in the ground by our mailbox. Just another new addition to the garden.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

The weather down here at our campsite at the shore turned out to be pretty nice today, despite what the forecasters had to say. And Kim and I got some more cleanup done outside. We raked leaves and gathered a lot of dry twigs. Some of which we burned tonight. And now we are just enjoying the quiet. I'm sure glad we are able to come down and enjoy this.

With everything that is going on in the world right now Kim and I weren't sure when we would be able to get to our camper. But to our delight the campground was able to open this weekend. So here we are cleaning and setting up for the season. Even Schnitzel did his part. And his part was posing for me after he claimed my chair as his. I guess we'll have to share.

Friday View - 1 May 2020 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Friday is here and that means it's time for a Friday Schnitzel picture. If there is something that Schnitzel really loves it's his yard. And yes it is his yard. Just ask him. So with the weather being a little nicer today we spent some time out in the sun and that's when I grabbed today's view.

I also played around with my GoPro in the Cafe and captured about an hour of good video. But for now I would like to share this short clip. It starts out with some birds enjoying a meal then a few seconds in another guest arrives.
