Friday View - 31 August 2018 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Like many if not most weekends down the shore this summer we are getting a good amount of rain. But it's only Friday so perhaps we'll get a couple good days. And it's not a complete washout either. I even found some time to make a few snapshots. For today's photo I am sharing this one from just outside of Avalon.

That will do it for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Hi friends. In place of my usual throwback photo this week I am sharing a mobile update from our campsite. Kim and I took Friday off to enjoy a long weekend at the shore. We figured most of the holiday weekend traffic would take place on Friday and Monday so we are traveling on Thursday and Sunday. We'll see how that works out I guess. So for today's view I am sharing another shot of Schnitzel.

That's all for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

This is being posted kind of late my friends so let's get right to it. I was shooting some of our flowers this afternoon and I kind of like this "scene". I am not 100 percent sure about how this turned out but I think you'll know what I was going for.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

As I was going over some RAW images trying to decide what I would share today I came across a folder of bird and squirrel shots from last week. And since I seem to have a hard time photographing bluejays I thought I'd share this one with you. I'm pretty happy with the way this came out.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Some weeks back Kim and I purchased a honeysuckle bush while visiting a little garden shop just outside of Wildwood New Jersey. I had been looking for one for a while but wasn't having much luck. Then one Sunday morning before we packed up camp to head home we took a ride and found one. Well actually we found two but at $39.99 each I only bought one. I planted it a few days after we got home and made sure it got plenty of water so it would take root. And it has done well. It's grown quite a bit and is filling out nicely. Being later in the season though I didn't think it would flower. But then I saw buds and even shared a picture here at the blog. Well now I am sharing this shot with you. Those buds have bloomed!

Mind you that these are the only flowers it has right now but I'm sure by next season it will have a lot more.

Today's mobile update is a shot from my truck as we were leaving Ocean City New Jersey this afternoon. Kim and I spent much of the day walking along the boardwalk. And what perfect weather for it too. Not too hot and definitely not too cold.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Has anyone else noticed this? There seems to be a lot of wild mushrooms or some kind of fungus going wild this year. Mostly around trees and in wood mulch. We have it at our campsite at the shore and at home too. I guess it's all the rain we got this season. And though I wouldn't eat it this does make for an interesting subject.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

On this on and off rainy day filled with overcast and clouds I managed to find some time to do some shooting at the Cafe. And really it was quite unplanned. I had simply gone out to toss some peanuts around for the squirrels and bluejays and before I knew it the place was packed. So me being me I grabbed my camera and almost three hundred frames later here is today's photo.

Sunday View - 19 August 2018 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Four years my friends! Four years ago I made a commitment to post a photo every day. And for four years I have done so. Sometimes it has been a simple snapshot and others something I put a lot of work into. This Summer in particular has been a little different with Kim and me traveling every weekend but so far I have kept up with it. And I hope to continue and dare I say even improve on that. I have lots of ideas but just need to put them to work.

As much as this blog is an outlet for me to express myself with my camera there is something equally important. That is you the viewer. Without someone to share with this would be all for naught. To me it's just awesome that there are people out there that take the time to visit Exploration Photography and check in on what's going on in my world. Thank You!

The idea behind today's photo is much the same as the first daily photo I shared on August 19, 2014. And it's simple. No really, it's simple. Or perhaps simplicity. I took something that we could see any day but may not notice and attempted to make you notice it. Make sense?

Here is Today's photo. I shot this today as Kim and I were closing up camp for the week. Can you guess what it is?

Click For Full Size Image

Okay, I know this is pretty easy. These are of course droplets of water. They were hanging from the support beams of our camper's awning. Just an every day thing that caught my eye. And for those interested...

Here is the EXIF data.

And no milestone post would be complete without one of if not my most popular subject. During the course of my blog something new was spawned. And that would be the Avian Cafe. The Avian Cafe was our yard at our previous house and more specifically the area that I had bird feeders. But anyone who has maintained a bird feeder knows that not just birds eat from them. Squirrels do too. And while many see them as pests I see them as wildlife that is just trying to survive. So instead of fighting them I went with it and fed them too. So at that time the Avian Cafe became the Garden cafe. Fast forward a few years to when we moved here  and I created the "New" Garden cafe. The new one is much bigger simply because we have much more land to work with.  And LOTS of variety of birds too along with more squirrels than ever.

So there you have it. A quick history of the Cafe. Oh and this too.

And before I share Yesterday's View and wrap this up I would like to share two things I have learned over the last four years.

One, even if you are not fond of squirrels it's a lot easier to live with them for a few bucks a week. A simple bag of peanuts helps keep them away from your garbage cans. This is of course my opinion based on personal experience.

And two, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SQUIRREL PROOF BIRD FEEDER!. Do not waste your money. And if some company guarantees their feeder is squirrel proof they are liars. Plain and simple. Squirrels are a lot smarter and MUCH more resourceful than you could ever imagine.

To put it simply, just try to get along with them. besides, they are really fun to watch!

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I am writing this as I sit on the beach in Avalon New Jersey and I am here to tell you it is hot and humid. And very crowded. I shot this photo as this hungry seagull was hunting for people's leftovers. It's not the best of quality because I used the zoom on my camera phone.

Today's throwback is from August 16, 2015 and it's subject is among my very favorites. Sunrise at the beach. Although I am at the shore just about every weekend I have yet to get out and shoot the sun this Summer. Maybe I'll do something about that this week. We'll see. For now though enjoy this photo. Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Well the rains have come and the rains have gone. But I'm pretty sure they will be coming back again soon. But at least I was able to get out and do some shooting this afternoon. First though I threw out some peanuts for the birds and squirrels. And they must have been hungry because they showed up in droves. We had more squirrels than normal and a ton of bluejays as usual but we also saw a cardinal and even a woodpecker. The woodpecker was the most unusual because I rarely see them on the ground. So as you can probably guess today's photo is going to be wildlife themed. And you are right. Here is one of the many squirrels that came around to enjoy a peanut or two.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's throwback is from August 23, 2015 and was shot at the original Cafe. This is one of the hummingbirds that we used to see a lot of. I didn't put out any feeders this year and time is running out to see these little wonders. Maybe I'll give it a try and see if we can attract some to the new Cafe. Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I am sharing another shot from the Lizard Tail Swamp Preserve. This time though we shift away from the insect world and stick to plant life. This is some kind of wildflower but I don't know exactly what variety. I do know that it makes for a nice subject to practice my closeup photography. I shot this handheld since I didn't have a tripod with me but I think it came out pretty good.
