Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Since I shared a Smidge picture earlier in the week and since I also grabbed some nice pictures of a youth squirrel this afternoon I would like to switch up today's view. Here is one of our latest editions to the Cafe.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Well the weather is warming up, a little, and I decided to uncover our flowers. The buckets seem to have done the trick and they all survived. So for today's view I would like to share this snapshot I made with my phone.

Today I would like to share a bonus Smidge picture. I had something else in mind but then I saw her sitting in our front window and thought it was the perfect subject. And she didn't even see me take her picture.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I have a few more pics that I want to share with you from Longwood last week. I spend a lot of my time there shooting flowers but I do also snap some pictures of scenery. And two of those from last week stood out to me. I have included color photos of both but I have also included one black and white. I'm not sure which I like better but am leaning toward the black and white. Please let me know what you think if you're so inclined.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today has been a very chilly and very windy one but so far our flowers have been okay. I did cover the tulips with buckets last night and due to said wind have left them on today. I hope this cold snap passes quickly. Anyway while I was out photographing our tulips yesterday I also shot some pictures in one of our neighbor's yard. They have daffodils and lots of wildflowers. And for today's view I would like to share this little wildflower. You can't tell from the photo but it is less than an in wide. I got up close using that 50mm lens I got at Christmas. I am really loving shooting with it.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

The weather is turning cold here again. It seems that Old Man Winter just doesn't want to give up just yet. Tonight isn't supposed to be too bad at around 35° F but tomorrow night it's supposed to hit 21° F which is not good for our Spring blooms. I did pick up some buckets that I'll put over them to keep any frost out but I just hope the cold doesn't get them. So for today's view I would like to share this tulip. I have about seven or eight blooming right now and I hope they'll be okay. I'll do my best.

It's that time again, time for a Friday Schnitzel picture. This week we see him in the kitchen waiting for his treat after coming in from the yard. Yes, he expects a treat just for coming in.

Ready for this week's Thursday Smidge picture? Good because I am ready to share one. For some reason she cooperated and actually posed for me today. She probably wants something. Probably treats. And yep, she'll get them.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It seems that no matter where I go I find a squirrel. Or perhaps they find me? And Longwood Gardens is no exception. I was on my way back to the main entrance to head home and I looked up and saw this guy looking down. I didn't have anything to feed him but I don't think I would be allowed to anyway. Not in the gardens. So I took a few pictures of him and would like to share one of them with you. As an aside I only had a 50mm lens on my camera that day. I just got it at Christmas and wanted to use it for photographing flowers. I must say I am very pleased with the results. Though it's not as good for shots like this one. I don't think it turned out too bad though considering.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I am sharing a few more shots from Longwood as I keep going through Saturday's work. This is pretty much it for my flower photos from the weekend. And while I am not 100% satisfied with them I still think they are worth posting. Hopefully I'll get back there soon as the outdoor flowers start to bloom.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

And welcome to the first day of Spring. Although yesterday felt a lot more Springlike this weather still beats snow and ice. And I'm able to have the windows open so there's that. Now speaking of Spring what better way to celebrate it's arrival than to enjoy some more flowers from my trip to Longwood yesterday? Well okay I'm sure there are better ways but I'm going to share some with you anyway. Actually one. For today's view I would like to share a few shots I made of some lilies. Lilies can be put on the list of my favorites right up there with Orchids. In fact I hope some of mine will be coming up as soon as the warm weather is a little more consistent. For now though please have a look at these. And be sure to click on the images to see a larger version.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today has been another beautiful one my friends. It's warm and for most of the day it's been sunny and just a great day to spend some time outside with nature. And for the first time in over a year and a half I visited one of my favorite places, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square Pennsylvania. For those of you who are not familiar I have included a link above but it's a 1,077 acre botanical garden that was once the home of Pierre S DuPont. You really should check the link if you want to know more than I can tell you though. What I can do is share a few pictures from my visit today. In fact I'll probably be sharing them for a few days. But to start things off I would like to show you some Orchids. Orchids are one of my favorite flowers and Longwood has plenty. Please have a look.

Here we are at Thursday again and that means it's time for another Thursday Smidge picture. Today I thought I'd get a quick shot of her while she was still sleeping when I got home, and I almost did. She woke up though and I snapped this as she was yawning from a long day of resting up before her next nap.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Wow what a beautiful day today! We made it well into the 70's and had plenty of sunshine. I even got some work done in the yard this afternoon. I got a little camera time in too. I saw lot's of birds and squirrels but one stood out from the rest. I guess this woodpecker was hungry because he perched to the bottom of the suet feeder to get to what was left. After he was done eating I put some fresh suet in it so the next time would be a bit easier.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today we take a look at the same squirrel from yesterdays view as she was coming down out of the tree. I often see squirrels squirrels flatten themselves up against the tree trunk. I guess it's their way of staying safe as they look around for other animals and possibly hawks. Or maybe they're just playing.

What a difference a day makes. Okay I guess it's really a couple days but today sure is nice. The sun is shining and it's in the 60's. All of the ice and most of the snow from Saturday has melted and it feels a lot like Spring. I even planted some tulip bulbs this afternoon. Let's hope they do well. And of course while in the garden I had my camera nearby to grab a shot or two since our wildlife is very active. And for today's view I would like to share this squirrel. I put peanuts out and she quickly grabbed one to snack on.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I shot today's view with my cell phone yesterday afternoon as I pulled into our driveway. I had run out to grab some groceries and when I left it was raining. By the time I got back though it was snowing. And heavy too. Here we see a bird sitting on a dogwood branch. I'm pretty sure he was trying to get out of the storm.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Well who would have thought, we're in the midst of yet another wintry weekend. What was originally supposed to be rain turned out to be a decent amount of snow. It started about 8:30 am this morning and it's still going. The snow sticking but seems to be manageable though. I think the wind is the worst part. It hasn't been fun filling the feeders and putting out fresh water but I am keeping up with it. And the birds are more than happy. I am seeing more than usual and it's probably the water more than anything. I have found that is the key. And of course I am keeping plenty of peanuts out for the squirrels and bluejays. Now for today's view I would like to share this female cardinal who is waiting on a dogwood branch for the right time to fly in and grab a snack.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It's Thursday and that means it's time for another Thursday Smidge picture. The room she was in when I shot this was dimly lit so I had to use the flash and Smidge did not particularly like that. She kept looking away but I was able to grab a halfway decent shot.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I have to say that the quality of today's view is not where I would like it to be but the subject is spot on. I shot this yesterday when the weather was a little iffy and there were a lot of clouds. Oh it was warm. Very warm. But with the rain I didn't see a lot of squirrels. I still have some bird pics from the weekend but I wanted to change it up for a day. So for today's view here is one of our many squirrels.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today's view is a continuation of yesterday's time lapse shooting sessions at the Cafe. I've done a lot of shooting like this in the past but have just recently gotten back into it. And I think it's something I'll be doing a lot because it seems that our wildlife friends act a lot more natural without people around. Also keep an eye out for more videos to come. And possibly a live cam but that one is going to take some time. For now have a look at these.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Well the weather is warming up and the Cafe is getting busier. I have seen many different birds this week. There's been mourning doves and today I saw a bird that has the colors of a male cardinal but is certainly not a cardinal. I see them every year and I'm still not sure what they are. I'll try to get a picture and do a little research to figure out what it is. Today I set up the camera at one of the feeders and grabbed a few hundred frames and I got some really good results. For today's view I would like to share this pretty girl with you.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I shot a lot of frames the other day and going through them I have come across a few that I like. But that's all really, a few. And that's why I am so thankful for digital. However being able to shoot so much at once can tend to make me a bit lazy. Back when film was king I really had to think about what I was shooting. And there is no way I would snap off nearly 1000 frames. It would cost a fortune. More so today. So I guess I am glad I raised on film. Now I just need to be a bit less lazy. But enough of that and on to today's view. Here is one more shot from Monday in the Cafe.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I am sharing another shot from the nearly 1000 I made yesterday at the Cafe. Here is another of our many cardinals but this time a female. I would estimate we have at least two dozen cardinals and nearly half of the females. I guess that's why the population keeps going up.
