Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Once again I am skipping a Throwback Thursday photo and am instead sharing some more vacation pictures from Mexico. I still have lots to show you!

In addition to the abundant wildlife we saw Mexico offers lots of plant life too. Cancun and Riviera Maya are very much a tropical jungle area and as such have some vegetation we don't see here at home. And of course there are similarities too. Like morning glories for instance. We saw lots and lots of morning glories. But something we don't see around here is palm trees and coconuts. We saw a lot of them down there too. And now you can have a look.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Of all of the wildlife we saw in Mexico we probably saw iguanas the most. They were literally everywhere. Didn't bother anyone and they certainly were not aggressive in any way but some of them were quite large. I addition to the iguanas there were smaller lizards too. We even had one in our suites master bath. I tried to get a picture but he took off too fast.

Today's photo is one of the bigger lizards. This was along one of the walkways.

Left undisturbed the iguanas would stay in the same place for long periods of time. I guess they just kind of hang out and wait for food to come to them.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It doesn't matter what beach you visit or where it is, Seagulls are universal. The seagulls I saw in Mexico do look a little different than the ones at the Jersey shore but they are basically the same. Take today's photo for instance. This could be anywhere. The real mystery is what are they looking at? I sure didn't see anything. But they were both looking.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

So we're walking along one of the many wooden walkways at our resort in Mexico one day last week and I was of course taking pictures. As usual Kim was ahead of me when she suddenly calls me to hurry up, and have my camera ready. I catch up to her and this is what I see.

These are coatis. Around here we only see them in zoos but in a warmer tropical climate they are everywhere. What happened is Kim like I said was ahead of me and decided to take out a pack of peanuts to snack on. Well as soon as the wrapper crinkled these guys came running. I guess they are used to being "treated" to the occasional snack. And yes at my coaxing Kim shared a few peanuts with them.

Little beggars!

Also, filed under the heading of don't try this, I did pet them. They were very soft and very friendly. Again, probably because they are used to people. But they are wild animals related to the racoon family and may bite. In other words don't do something stupid just because I did :)

You can read about coatis by Clicking Here.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I have finally had a little time to scan through my pictures from Mexico on my DSLR's memory card. While I mostly made snapshots with my phone, after all it was our vacation, I still have a lot of "regular" shots to process. Anyone who knows me knows that I shoot mainly landscape and wildlife. And I have no shortage of either. While wildlife in Mexico can differ from here at home there is also a lot of similarities. And today's photo is something that I can see almost every day. A woodpecker.

Being shot handheld I think this turned out well. And he wasn't close either. I shot this at full zoom. Luckily there was a lot of sunlight so I was able to use a decent shutter speed. I believe this is a red belly woodpecker but may be incorrect.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today in lieu of a throwback post I am sharing some snapshots from one of the excursions we booked during our trip to Mexico. These are from a place called Xcaret. Xcaret is what they call an ECO Park and is located about 25 minutes from our resort. During our day there we swam down an underground river, took a boat ride that was also underground, saw beautiful beaches and even took in a show or two.

Here is just a sampling of the photos I shot that day. I'll be sharing more soon.

You can read more about Xcaret by Clicking Here.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I am continuing with snapshots fron our trip to Mexico last week. I have so many to share! And then there's a ton I shot with my DSLR. I'll try not to bore you though and only post the good stuff.

Today's photos were shot during a cab ride I think we'd both rather forget about. It's kind of a long story that I'll share later. Each of these is actually on the side of the road,  Highway 307 I'f I remember correctly.  Two are self explanatory but the one with two guys was the aftermath of a truck crash. Or rather a truck that turned over. It looked quite bad but from what I read there was only minor injuries.

Welcome to Mexico outside of the resort.

Throwback Week - 10 February 2019 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Hi there friends! Kim and I are away for the week so starting today through next Sunday I will be sharing a series of "Throwback" posts. We will be in Cancun and I will have internet but just in case something doesn't cooperate I set up daily auto-posting. Now as long as things do work as they should I will probably be sharing a special second daily post from warm and hopefully sunny Mexico. And in addition to that I will almost certainly be sharing random posts at the Facebook page.

So to start things off here is my Daily View from February 10, 2015. Be sure to Click Here to see my original post.

Today's post is a rather quick one. There is a lot going on and we are very busy. You'll know soon enough what we are busy with, if you don't know already.

This is last night's Moon. I had a bit of a time shooting this due to some very high winds we were having.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

To wrap up his past weekend's photos I would like to share these birds with you.

Click For full Size Image
A lot of birds come and go with the seasons but these guys stick around all year. Pretty soon the feeders will be getting more crowded and I will be going through a lot more seed. As it stands now I use about 50 lbs per week but at the peak of the season I probably use about 60 to 70 lbs. It's all worth it though.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

I know I said that I had a good day shooting yesterday but when I went back and looked I didn't realize how good it was. That means lots and lots of squirrel photos. And today I am sharing this one with you.

Click For Full Size Image

You can't see it in a still photo but he was waving his tail around as if there was some kind of threat. I looked around and didn't see anything but he sure did. After a few minutes though he calmed down and grabbed some peanuts. Maybe there was a hawk that flew away? All's well that ends well I suppose.

Sunday View - 3 February 2019 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today was a good day at the Cafe my friends. It warmed up a lot and our birds and squirrels were very active for the first time in a few days.

Everyday I see squirrels going about their business. This mainly includes scrounging for and hiding food. But every once in a while I'll spot one that I feel like I've caught off guard. Take today's photo for instance. I shot it while spying on this guy way up in the oak tree in our front yard. He had just left one of the dens and was actually grooming himself when he turned and saw me. And then he continued cleaning himself up before scurrying down the tree to grab some of the peanuts I put out.

Also, to keep you up to date on our Amaryllis here is one of my latest photos. It's starting to grow taller and you can see that the flower is forming nicely. I am definitely going to have to get a bigger pot for it soon.

Saturday View - 2 February 2019 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

It seems as if we are having a heat wave today. Temperatures made it all the way up to about 35° F! Hey, when it's been down to 0° F that's warm. With this warmer weather came lots of hungry birds and squirrels. They hit the Cafe early and often with me having to do two refills throughout the day. Gotta fatten them up so they can withstand these record low temps. Also with the slight warmup I was able to shoot some photos of our hungry friends. For today's post I would like to share this one.

Click For Full Size Image

This was just a drop in the bucket. At times this feeder was full all the way around with birds. So was the one next to it that is out of frame. Not to mention the other two at the back end of the Cafe.

Later in the afternoon I had to make a trip to the supermarket to pick up some things we forgot to get during our earlier shopping trip and on the way back I passed by my favorite sunset location and it was actually sunset. And I had my camera with me. So for a bonus I would like to share this with you.
