Exploration Photography Daily View - November 30, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

While a good number of people were out shopping for bargains on Black Friday I tried to avoid the crowds by visiting our local zoo. Apparently a lot of other people had the same idea. It was packed! But that didn't stop me from getting some good shots. And if you have been reading my blog for any amount of time you probably know that the Bald Eagles are one of my favorite subjects.

Such majestic creatures! I would also like to share a video that I shared a week or so ago. It shows these guys in action.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 29, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

As you probably know I really like to shoot the Sun. Especially a good sunrise. And lately I have really taken to shooting in black and white. But I don't believe I've ever shot a black and white sun/sunrise. So isn't it about time? I think so!

I kind of like it.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 28, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

The Golden Hour is a period of time just after sunrise and just before sunset. This can be a good time to photograph landscapes because of the nice golden red tint and much softer light. And in my opinion the best place to enjoy this magical time is at any shore point. For today's photo I would like to share such a scene. It was made from two desperate frames and merged in Photoshop.

This is the Absecon Inlet that flows between Atlantic City and Brigantine New Jersey. I shot it from The Flagship Resort from our 14th floor balcony just after the sunrise I shared yesterday. If you look along the shore you can see the uprights that used to support part of the boardwalk. Hopefully it will be rebuilt by next year.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 27, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

As many of you may already know I set out early on Thanksgiving morning to shoot the sunrise. And you also know that the sun hid behind a heavy layer of clouds. So, no sunrise shot. Fast forward to this morning. Kim and I were in Atlantic City and we happened to have a perfect view over the ocean. And this time the sun was shining nice and bright.

Combine the bright sunlight and a new camera that I am still getting used to and it adds up to a little difficulty in grabbing the perfect shot. I am not totally pleased with the colors but I still like it. What are your thoughts?

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 25, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

I shoot a lot at Valley Forge. And very often I share the same scene taken at different times. I believe that no place is the same twice. But sometimes I come across a place or composition that I have pretty much ignored for one reason or another. Or sometimes there are changes made by the National Park Service. They do try to keep things fresh where they can. But these changes are often subtle. Yesterday I came across one. And I shot it. But today I would like to share a view that I saw just before I did.

I made a quick glance to my left and I knew I had to capture this.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 24, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Happy Thanksgiving my friends! As we enjoy this day of giving thanks for what we have and spending time with family and friends I would also like to thank you for stopping by and checking out whatever it is I may to share with you.

This morning I set out to shoot a sunrise over Valley Forge. It's been a while and I don't work today so I thought it would be nice. Nature on the other hand had other ideas. And one of them was clouds. But I didn't let that discourage me. After all I was at one of the prettiest places around full of open space and lots of history. So instead of a sunrise please enjoy this.

This is one of my favorite scenes and I often try to make it just a little bit better. And while there is room for improvement I like it. Hmm, perhaps a black and white version would be nice...

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

As the weather continues to get colder I continue to enjoy looking back at shots from when Summer was just upon us. And I hope today's photo helps keep you warm. Well maybe it will at least bring back warmer memories.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Yesterday I shared a photo that I thought may remind us of warmer times. Today I would like to share something a little different. And maybe it will remind us of the cold weather that is on the way. And very rapidly may I add?!

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

With the cold weather and the very high winds we are having here today I thought it a good time to look back at this past Spring when we were looking forward to Summer instead of even colder days.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Well folks this is getting out to you really late so it's going to be quick one. But I promise that I am working on some cool stuff in the background here and should be sharing some of it with you soon. So without further delay here is today's photo.

This is another shot from last year that I thought would look great in black and white. What do you think?

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Continuing through my archives (new stuff coming soon!) and seeing as Winter is about to rear it's ugly head I thought I would share a little bit of Spring with you. And in living color!

I know we need the change that the seasons bring but I am still hoping to get through this Winter as quickly as possible.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

I was digging through my archives today and thought it would be cool to share something from this day one year ago. Unfortunately I did not shoot on November 17 last year. I did shoot on the 14th though. So from just over a year ago here is a shot from the Philadelphia Zoo.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 16, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

I know I have been posting a lot of Moon pics lately and today I am posting yet another. And I am  calling it Super-Moon + 1.

I shot this the day after the biggest Super-Moon in 69 years. Hence the +1. And though I shared one from the actual occurrence I think this one is a lot better. Mostly because I had a better view yesterday as the Moon rose above the horizon and appeared it's largest. I got a lot more detail this time.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

With the Winter season approaching I thought it would be nice to take a look back at the Summer that has just passed us by. And quite quickly I might add. So here is a shot I made at the Cafe on July 30th.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 13, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

I'm sure you have heard by now that the Moon is going to be the closest to the Earth that it has been in nearly 70 years. It's been all over the news for days now. And as it rose above the horizon tonight I was ready to go. Unfortunately it was positioned behind some trees at first so my line of sight was blocked. But instead of letting that ruin my image I gave it a go came up with this.

And a little bit later I had a clear shot. Though by this time it was not as large in the sky it was nice and clear.

From what I understand the Moon should appear very large at around 6:22 am tomorrow morning. I'll try to be ready but I hope I have a clear shot. If I do I'll be sure to share it with you.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Today I would like to take another look back into the archives and show you another overlooked photo. And it combines two of my favorite subjects. A squirrel and a black and white image. I have really been working at the black and white thing lately and I am liking it a lot.

What do you think? Would this be better in color? I'd love to hear your opinion.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 11, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Early this morning before work I was in our basement going through some packed boxes looking for something. I didn't find what I was looking for but I did come across something really cool.

Going back some years I inherited a handful of cameras from my Cousin Charles. Charles was quite the shutterbug and had a small but somewhat interesting collection. I have fond memories of him sharing it with me from the time I was a child and well into my adult years. In fact he is a very big part of why I love the art of photography. And today I would like to share with you one of the coolest cameras that is now mine to enjoy and preserve.

Here is the Pentax Auto 110.

Remember the days of 110 cameras? Yeah, me too. They sure were convenient but the quality was lacking. This was due to the very small negative. But with this camera Pentax attempted to improve the 110 image with what I believe to be the only (or at least one of very few) 110 SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses. I have never shot with this camera and seeing as 110 film was discontinued in 2009 you would think it impossible to do so now. But there is hope. And that hope is a company named Lomographische AG. They produce many styles of extinct film including 110. So perhaps I will snag a roll or two and see what this baby can do.

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 10, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

We are just a few days away from what is supposed to be the biggest Super Moon in a very long time. And I certainly hope to be able to grab some shots and share some with you. Since tonight's sky has finally cleared up I figured I would get out there and take some warm up shots. Here is what I came up with.

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Exploration Photography Daily View - November 8, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

Since I have not had time to shoot much lately I thought I would go back and take a second look at some of my older stuff. And I think I came across something good. So I played around with it for a while and before I knew it I created this.

Two of my favorites. Birds and black and white. I really like it. I hope you do too.
