Welcome To The Daily View

Today I am almost wrapping up a weeks worth of flowers shot at Longwood. I say almost because I may have one or two more. It really was a good day. So please enjoy these lilies. Another one of my favorites. In fact I hope to have some of my own this Spring. Stay tuned.

Welcome To The Daily View

Continuing with our Longwood trip I am sharing another "Mystery" flower. Well, it's a mystery to me. I think it's an Orchid. It was "Orchid Extravaganza" after all. And there are many breed of Orchid I am not familiar with. Once again any help identifying it would be awesome.

Welcome To The Daily View

I need your help today friends. You can probably figure that I will be sharing some flowers that I shot while at Longwood yesterday. And like most trips to Longwood I didn't record the names of many of the flowers. You would think that after so many visits and so many photos, literally thousands, I would be somewhat of an expert. Not even close! I am usually concentrating on framing the image and camera settings. And of course driving those who are visiting with me nuts. They often have to wait while I shoot obsessively. Anyhow here is my offering to you for today. Any help identifying it would be awesome.

Welcome To The Daily View

Wow, what wonderful weather we had here today. The temperatures rose above 70° F ((21° C) and for most of the day the skies were clear. And after over 3 months Kim and I finally found the time to drive down to Longwood Gardens. Our good friends Rich and Marion joined us too. To add to the fun Longwood's Orchid Extravaganza is still in full swing. So there were lots of orchids, of course. It should be no surprise that today's photo is an orchid.

Welcome To The Daily View

During my daily morning routine of filling the cafe feeders and just checking things out in our back yard I saw another sunrise that I just had to shoot. But I was also feeling a little creative. So taking a risk of today's photo turning out just a bit too different I processed it in HDR using Photomatix. Basically it blends three or more frames that were shot at different levels of brightness to give a somewhat unique result. I tried not to go overboard. What do you think?

Click For Full Size Image

I also did some touch-up in Photoshop.

I am forgoing the technical info and "Before" image today since this was made with different frames at different settings. I don't do a lot of HDR but once in a while I like to play around with it.

Welcome To The Daily View

At the end of a stressful workday I find it rather therapeutic to just relax outside with nature and of course grab a shot or two. And that was just what I needed this afternoon. Fortunately the weather was rather pleasant and the birds were abundant. As such I was able to get this cool shot of a female Downy Woodpecker at one of the feeders.

Welcome To The Daily View

Today I am carrying on with yesterday's theme. This yet another photo from Atlantic city New Jersey and like the empty boat docks seems a bit lonely. Spring however is a mere hours away as I type this and with it hopefully warmer weather. And when it does I hope to return to AC and report back with some nice sunny and fun filled shots. But until then...

Over the past few years I have been drawn to this scene time and again. If that bench could talk it would probably have a good story or two. And perhaps some not so good ones.

I cropped this in Photoshop and converted it to black and white with the help of Silver Efex Pro 2. Part of the wonderful NIK Collection of filters available at no charge from Google. Click here to find out more.

Welcome To The Daily View

I like to call today's photo "Coming In For A Landing". If you look closely I think you'll see why.

Growing up just six miles from here I used to see bluejays all the time. Then in the ten plus years I lived at my second home just two miles away I never saw them. Not even one. Now in our new home just four more miles away I have a family of them living in the trees in our backyard. I see several each day. Go figure.
