Today's photo is a snapshot. But it's a snapshot that continues my series of shots from our Schuylkill River Trail walk on Saturday. This is a view inside of a tree. As we walked along we saw this tree that had a big opening on it's side. So at risk of getting bitten by something that may live in it I stuck my phone in and shot this.

For today's photo I would like to share another scene from along the Schuylkill River that I shot on Saturday. This one is in full color and shows off the turning of the leaves quite nicely. As we walked along the trail I saw this and marveled at how the bright sun shined through and was muted ever so slightly as it was absorbed by the trees. I knew right away that I had to share it with you. I hope you enjoy my reproduction of the moment as much as I enjoyed the original.

Welcome To The Monday View

Today as I continue with photos of our Saturday walk along the Schuylkill River I would like to share something that I have posted here many times in the past. I know absolutely no history about it and don't really know it's age. And I can say for sure that twenty-five years or so ago when I first saw it it was a bit more "complete". I am talking of course about the old stone house that is at the beginning of the Schuylkill River Trail in Valley Forge National Park.

One day I'll have to make an effort to learn a little about this house. Though I did one time ask someone at the Visitor's Center but they didn't know what I was talking about let alone know any real documented history about it.

Welcome To The Saturday View

Kim and I started out the day with a trip to the Schuylkill River Trail. Part of Valley Forge National Park. We have been there many times but it has been a while and we could not have picked a better day. With temperatures hovering around 70° F (21° C) it was very comfortable. The plan was to walk about a mile and turn around. But just like last week at the park we ended up going a bit further. In the end we walked about five and a half miles. We walked to Pawling's Farm actually. Also part of Valley Forge and home to the 300 plus year old sycamore tree I have shared in the past. And just like last week's walk I sure do feel it. but not quite as bad so I guess I'm making progress.

Of course walking along a river you come across some nice scenery. And you know that I am going to share what I saw. Today I would like to show you this.

While resting up for a few minutes on a bench along the river I shot a minute of video. It was so quiet and so serene I just had to record it. Remember to view at full screen and at the highest resolution you can. And turn up the volume to enjoy the quiet sounds of nature.

Welcome To The Daily View

Switching back to my Valley Forge trip last weekend I would like to share this railroad bridge with you. As you can see there is no clear path to the underpass. In fact the area is blocked off. But when I was a younger person this was not the case. There used to be a set of stairs leading to that right hand side tunnel that was meant for pedestrian traffic. One used to be able to pass under the bridge and get a very nice view of the Schuylkill River.

You can see I tried to add a bit of artistic flair. Nothing much but just a little something.

Exploration Photography Daily View - May 21, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

We had yet another rainy day here but in our journeys today I did mange to stop off at Betzwood Park near Valley Forge and snap off some frames. When we got there there was a lot of geese in the parking lot and the the surrounding area. I did my best to photograph some of them but they seemed rather annoyed by me and my camera. In fact they downright took off on foot right into the river. Here is a shot of a couple of them.

And here is a video of me following them as they went for a swim.

I bet if I had food for them it would have been a different story. Next time I guess. What do geese at anyway?

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

About two or three weeks ago Kim and I were out driving and our journey took us down a road I have never traveled before. And it wasn't far from home either. It was just around the corner about two miles away. And right off of this road is a trail that goes along the Schuylkill River. So this morning I decided to take a quick drive to the trail and shoot a few photos. And now I would like to share one with you.

A little foggy and a bit chilly but it sure did warm up. Hard to believe it's December.

Exploration Photography Daily View - August 31, 2015

Hi and welcome to the Exploration Photography Daily View!

Where oh where has the Summer gone? As August wraps up today and we step into September I can't believe how fast time has gone by. Maybe it's just part of getting older or maybe it's the fact that Kim and I are making use of all the time we can to get out there to see and do new things. Sort of a "Time flies when you are having fun" situation. Whatever it is we can't stop it so we will just make the best of it.

Our recent trip to the Philadelphia Museum Of Art on Saturday was my first time there since Kindergarten. About forty years ago. And it was the first time I have visited the Fairmount Water Works which by the way is very, very cool. And the photo ops there are incredible. To that end I share this with you.

This is a panorama that I made up of five separate frames. And just like yesterday I struggled a bit getting it "right" due to haze mixed with a very bright sky. Both of which could have been solved by using my circular polarizing filter that I left at home. But I still think it came out good in the end. And there is nothing wrong with working a little harder.

And now on another note I have a video for you. The past few days have been very busy around here and I haven't had a lot of time to hang out and look for our Hummingbird friends. And believe me when I say that if you don't have patience and keep an eye out you can certainly miss them. I do take the time and make sure they have fresh nectar and a clean feeder though. This is very crucial for the well being of these tiny wonders. And I was lucky enough to capture them on (digital) film.

March 15, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

With just five days to Spring things are really beginning to warm up. And with the rain finally gone for now people were out in droves to enjoy what is left of the weekend. My trip to Valley Forge today was a good example. It may have only been in the low 40's and it was tremendously windy but I saw runners and bicyclists and general sightseers throughout the park. And I was right out there with them. Me and my camera! And I got a lot of photos. Today I am sharing a couple with you. Along with a little extra.

Anyone who has followed my blog or Facebook page knows that I am partial to this tree. I think I have a few hundred photographs of it. Yes really. A few hundred. But in all of them I have never shot it like this. From the other side. The field that it is in is usually overgrown but for some reason it has been mowed down and I can actually get to the other side. So I guess this is a fresh look at something familiar. 

And on another note the "Amaryllis Watch" continues. Here is today's shot. Looking at it two things are very obvious. One, it has grown about an inch from yesterday. Two, I really need to clean that window. I guess I can get to it now that the rain has ended.

As for the little extra I promised I have two videos for you. Now the tree is in the main part of the park but the videos are actually from the Betzwood Trail Head on the Schuylkill River. So please take a look and enjoy. Remember that my videos are best viewed at full screen and in 1080P. Although you may want to turn the volume down a little because like I said it was very windy.

March 4, 2015 - Photo of The Day

For the past few days I have been sharing photos from my Sunday morning shoot along the Schuylkill River. Today I was going to move on to other things but I would like to add one more. Yesterday I showed you the trolley bridge. Today we take a look at the DeKalb Street bridge.

And to prepare us all for the upcoming snow (at least those of us in the northeast) enjoy this short video of Sunday afternoon's snow shower. This one didn't amount to much but I think tonight's may. I guess we'll see soon enough.

March 3, 2015 - Photo of The Day

Well once again Old man Winter just won't give up. We are getting rain, freezing rain, ice and then more rain. And to top that off we may get some snow in a couple of days. Some reports say six to eight inches and some say up to a foot. Just crazy. I guess I might get a few more snow photos but to tell the truth I'd rather be shooting some nice Springtime scenes. Today however I am sharing one more photo from Sunday morning. This is another shot of the Schuylkill River and shows the trolley bridge. Nothing special. I just like the composition.
