Today's shot is from Sunday morning when I was checking out the new to me trail along the Schuylkill River. On the side opposite of the river is a a set of freight train tracks. And along with the haze that was just starting to lift I could not resist shooting a few frames. Remember not to try this unless you are absolutely sure you will be safe.

January 25, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

Hi everyone. Today I would like to share with you a Tale of Three Photos. The story goes like this. I originally set out to re-shoot a photo I shared a week or so ago. The original was done with my camera phone and I wanted to do it again with my canon. I did and here it is.

These tracks carry freight trains. The shot I shared last time showed the other direction.

The second photo is something that came to mind as I was leaving this scene and happens to be about 1000 feet away from from these tracks.

This is of course another set of tracks. These carry passengers though. This line runs from Norristown to Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

The last photo I have for you today is a result of something I have written about before and firmly believe. It is along the lines of "turning around". On many more than a few occasions I have been out shooting and after I am done with the subject at hand as I am walking away I happen upon something cool or interesting that I wasn't expecting. Well cool to me anyway :)

I guess the reason I find this interesting is because it is next to a walking trail, close to the ground and out in the open. It is also super close to a daycare center. At least there are no bees in it anymore.

January 10, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

Happy Saturday everyone! It seems that it is another cold one for most of us. It's not snowing here but it is coming down in unusual places. Despite the cold I had to take our car in for it's 15,000 mile service this morning at 8 am. I like early appointments. I am usually in and out and have the rest of the day free.

While taking the car in I passed by a little spot from where I have been wanting to shoot some photos. It's right along the local freight train tracks. I didn't have my DSLR with me but I did get a few good shots with my phone. And today I share this one with you.

And after the car appointment Kim and I drove out to Lancaster County. It takes us about an hour to get there but I would like to share this time lapse video that gets us there in just three minutes!

December 14, 2014 - Photo of The Day

Hi everyone. How's your day been? Mine was busy again. Actually it was a fast and busy weekend. To wrap it up Kim and I and some friends took a drive down to Longwood Gardens to see their Christmas display. As usual it was spectacular. Of course I shot many, many photos and will be doing a separate update. That however is going to take some time so for today I would like to share a couple with you that I have had a chance to go over and touch up a bit.

This was shot with my camera phone from the Italian Water Garden. It is just a sampling of the many lights that were on display.

And this is one of thousands of ornaments on the many trees located in the Conservatory. Actually there are a few ornaments in this shot but I was aiming for the spiral.

And before I wrap it up for the day I would also like to share a short one minute video of Longwood's model train display.

November 6, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

What a rainy day. What can I do on a rainy day? How about a little black and white photography? I think the rain and mist go hand in hand with black and white. There's something about the mood I suppose. Something else also goes well with black and white. Trains. Well I had to run out today during work and went by the local trolly station and couldn't resist. And that brings us to today's photo.

This was shot with my Motorola Droid Turbo in color and converted to black and white in Photoshop with some other very minor adjustments thrown in for good measure. As you can tell it was also shot through a chain link fence. One that has very small openings. Instead of cropping the fence out though I chose to keep it in. I think it adds to the picture and mood I am trying to create. You can see the original color version here at the Facebook Group. It is untouched and as it came out of the camera.

I am not a big fan of rain but I try to make the best of it. though I would rather make the best of some sunny and 75 degree weather. Hey that would make a great country song ;)
