What a beautiful weekend he have had. It was warm (still is) and there is no trace of the snow we had last week. Except for a lot of mud and wet grass.

I was up early today as usual and decided to head over to the park across the way and try to catch the sunrise. I am pleased to say that the sky was clear and I had a great view. Here is one of many photos I shot.

Welcome To The Daily View

Hi folks. Today for the first time since our move I was able to spend some time out and about with my camera. And it was great! I got a lot good stuff to share with you. For today though I am starting off with something that I haven't posted in a long while. A sunrise. Now, it was quite cloudy when I set out and although the Sun wasn't big and bright it did provide some really nice color for the morning sky. So here, with a little more grain than I would like, is this morning's sunrise.

I shot this at the Norristown Farm Park which is within walking distance from our new house, for which I am ever so grateful. It is very nice to have such open space. You can read about the Park here and here.

Photoshop and the wonderful NIK Collection from Google was used for some rather tricky post processing. I had a little trouble with film grain (noise) but I think it came out okay.

Exploration Photography Daily View - January 19, 2016

Hi and welcome to the Daily View!

So after my oh so cold shot of the Moon yesterday evening I woke up this morning to a very frigid sunrise. So I figured hey why not? And I went out in a somewhat chilly 14° F (-10° C) to bring you the hot, hot Sun.

The Sun has a core temperature of about 27 Million degrees Fahrenheit (15 Million degrees Celsius) but even that couldn't break us out of the 20's today. I keep telling myself that we are one more day closer to Spring. And besides we have been very lucky this Winter.

Have you ever noticed that the clearest Winter days also seem to be the coldest? Well today was one of those days and when I got up and looked out the window I knew that there would be a beautiful sunrise. And though it was only 10° out there I managed to grab a few shots so I could share it with you. And here is what I got.

January 29, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

With all of the snow I have been sharing with you lately I thought it might be a nice change of pace to see a little sunshine. Looking outside now you wouldn't know that we had such a beautiful morning. It was cold. About 10° cold. But the sun was shining and the sky was awesome. I hope that the photo that I am sharing conveys that beauty. 

One of the hard parts of working with the raw files that come out of my camera is knowing when they have had enough adjustments. I will often look at a "finished" product and literally have to walk away for a bit and go back later to decide if I really like the outcome. In most of my work I try to faithfully reproduce the scene as I saw it while also adding a little personal touch. I hope that I have accomplished that today. Please have a look and let me know what you think. I'm really on the fence about this one.

Friday is usually my retro day but today I am changing it up a little. Today would have been my Father's 89th Birthday and in his honor I would like to post this morning's beautiful sunrise. It reminds me that he is up there watching over me. Happy Birthday Dad :)

And being that the sun is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old it doesn't get much more retro than that.

This is a 30 second exposure shot at ISO 100 with a high aperture. It was also about an hour before sunrise.

December 21, 2014 - Photo of The Day

Hello all. Today's photo is not the one I was going to share but as it usually goes this time of year I got side tracked. That's okay though. I got up just in time this morning to capture a really nice shot of the morning sun.

The colors were perfect. I did use a circular polarizing filter to enhance them and also to help sharpen the image. It also kept the sun from blowing out the scene. I am very happy with the result. What do you think?

November 13, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

Yesterday when I photographed our Rhododendron I also shot a few pictures of our Hydrangea. It is still very full. There are no flowers but the leaves are almost out of control. Last Winter I pruned it way down and it came back with a vengeance. I'm not sure what to do this year.

The funny thing about this Hydrangea is that Kim and I cannot remember if we planted it or if it spread from our neighbor's plant. I know for certain that it was not originally there. There was another bush and we removed it. I just cant remember how the Hydrangea got there. Either way it sure took off.

For today's photo I would actually like to share two photos with you. The first one is a black and white version of our Hydrangea and the second is in color. here is the black and white.

And here of course is the color photo.

I personally like the black and white better.

And before I go I would also like to share another sunrise time lapse. I shot this one this morning. And it sure was a nice cool and clear morning.

November 9, 2014 - Photo Of The Day (And Post Number 100)

Like the Headline says this is my 100th post. I can hardly believe it. When I started out I figured I would do a post or so a week and that is what I did. But I wanted more. I wanted to share more. So I started posting a photo of the day. I must admit that some days it is tough. I guess it's sort of like writer's block except with photographs. It's hard to keep things fresh sometimes. But I do my best and I think I do okay.

So for today's photo I thought there would be no place more fitting  to shoot than Valley Forge. One of my favorite photographic destinations. I was up nice and early so I had plenty of time to drive over there and set up my tripods and get the cameras ready. Everything was in place for a sunrise shot except for one thing. The sun. It was pretty cloudy out there. But the scenery and the colors were nice and I think I came away with some good stuff. So to start off here is today's photo.

This was created using three images shot at three different exposures.

And of course while at the park I indulged in one of my newest obsessions. A time lapse of the "sunrise". Like I said there wasn't much sun but the sky and clouds are nice.

And to wrap it up for the day I am also sharing a "regular" video that I shot. It is about six minutes long and is an example of  the peacefulness of Valley Forge and why I love early mornings there. It is best viewed in 1080P HD and full screen.

October 27, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

Winter is on the way and the days are getting shorter. Well at least the daylight hours are and that means the sun rises later in the morning. Even after the hours shift back next week it won't be long until sunrise happens after 7 am. And that means it will be easier for me to catch some of them with my camera. And that is exactly what I did this morning and what I share with you today.

I underexposed this one to bring out the detail of the sun and to mute the foreground. Nice, clean and simple. Plus I love the orange sky. The only thing I would do different next time is to use a tripod. I shot this handheld. Even so I think it is fairly sharp.

October 7, 2014 - Photo of The Day

As the year rolls on and we close in on Winter the days are getting shorter and shorter. I must say that I'm not a fan. There is one nice by-product however. The Sun rises later in the morning making it easier for me to catch it. Let me share this morning's sunrise with you.

I actually had a slightly difficult time shooting this. The morning was quite breezy and wind is not an outdoor photographers friend. The trees were swaying and though mounted on a tripod there was a little camera shake. The low lying clouds also hindered me a bit. I think it came out okay though. I like the colors.

Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot resist a good sunrise. Especially at the shore. Yesterday I shared a photo of the Ocean City Aerobatic Airshow with you. That was shot around the time we left for home from a short getaway. Today I would like to share a photo of how my day started at 6:38 am. Here of course is yesterdays sunrise.

And it was absolutely beautiful. A lot chillier than it looks too. But the chill didn't keep people away. You can't see it here but there were quite a few others around. In fact there was someone on each side of me. Each of us with our cameras set up on tripods. And this brings me to the great part of photography. 

I would bet that although we were all shooting the same scene that none of our images looks the same. This has nothing to do with equipment or ability. It has everything to do with the art of photography. The camera is only a tool. It records the data but the person behind it makes the photograph. It starts with composition and ends with post processing.

I kind of wish I could see the results of the other two guys that were out there with me. They were both very knowledgeable and I believe talented. And best of all I got some really good ideas from talking with them.

Here comes the sun.  I know I shared a sunrise photo with you just a couple of days ago but I have a nicer one for you today. I think so at least. 

Kim and I are on a short trip to Wildwood Crest in New Jersey. As always I had to get up early at least one day to greet the sun. What's really nice this time is that we are staying at a motel on the beach so I didn't have to go far.

Hi there! How is everyone? I hope the day finds you well!

Today I would like to share my sunrise with you. I just happened to be up and ready to shoot in time today to catch it. This is a view from my back yard off of our deck. It may not be as pretty as a shot done in Valley Forge or some other picturesque landscape but it is still a reminder of the beginning of another day. Something we should all be thankful for.

Who knows. Maybe as the days get shorter and the sun rises later I will do more of these. Maybe.
