Sunday View - 6 October 2024 Edition

Today I would like to share some more photos from yesterday morning at the park. These are from before sunrise and as you can see it was a little foggy.

Welcome To The Sunday View

Kim and I are home from our quick overnight trip. We were in Atlantic City New Jersey. It was a nice getaway and we had a good time. But the weather could have certainly been better. We got rain, rain and then more rain. And talk about fog?! 

I have a lot to share with you but for now I would like to share two snapshots that will sum up how quickly mother nature shifted gears on us. The first is from yesterday afternoon upon our arrival to our suite and the second is from this morning. The two are not identical but are of the same general view.

A total 180° huh? Of course the reason is due to the warm air that rolled in with the rain. It topped out at about 62° F (around 17° C) in Atlantic City. In fact it's warm here at home right now. I even have some of the windows open to air out the house a little.

So far this week I have been mostly sharing birds I saw while on the beach in Atlantic City. Today though I would like to share a snapshot I made while observing some low lying fog. The tall building on the left is the now closed Revel Casino. And you can't see the top of it.

Welcome To The Daily View

When I headed out to work this morning it must have been near 60° F (around 15° C). And we reached a high somewhere around 70° F (21° C). There was a bit of fog too. Tomorrow though is supposed to be the complete opposite. It's going to be much colder and on top of that we are looking at a possible 8 or more inches of snow. Welcome to Winter in Pennsylvania! But getting back to my drive in today, I shot this picture of one if the buildings at the Norristown State Hospital while sitting in traffic.

I shot this with my camera phone. The excellent Samsung Galaxy S6. Being shot in Full Auto I am not sharing any technical info. I did crop it and converted it from color into black and white in Photoshop.

Today like most days lately was a busy one. But we did take time out to drive to Lancaster County with my Sister Kathy and Brother in law Joe for dinner. We have been doing this each January for the past few years to celebrate Kathy's and my birthday. On our drive out there today we hit some foggy weather and I thought what the heck? I'll shoot a picture or two. And of course I had to share one with you.


Remember, don't try this at home. I will say though that there was not much traffic. But still, don't try this at home.

Exploration Photography Daily View - February 24, 2016

Hi and welcome o the Daily View!

Well after a less than enjoyable but thankfully uneventful drive Kim and I are home from Atlantic City. The weather is just nasty out there. Between heavy downpours and very high winds it is just not friendly on the roads. But we made it. And I must say that as windy as it is here it was twice as bad in AC. Just taking a quick walk outside of the condo we stayed at was a challenge. But it was worth it. I shot a lot of frames and have some cool stuff to share with you over the next few days or so. For today though I would like to show you our view from the balcony of our 29th floor suite. It was like we were in a different weather system. The winds were even nastier and the fog was very thick up there as you can tell by today's photo.

And this was after it thinned out. First thing in the morning I could not see anything past the fog. Just crazy.

Today's shot is from Sunday morning when I was checking out the new to me trail along the Schuylkill River. On the side opposite of the river is a a set of freight train tracks. And along with the haze that was just starting to lift I could not resist shooting a few frames. Remember not to try this unless you are absolutely sure you will be safe.

About two or three weeks ago Kim and I were out driving and our journey took us down a road I have never traveled before. And it wasn't far from home either. It was just around the corner about two miles away. And right off of this road is a trail that goes along the Schuylkill River. So this morning I decided to take a quick drive to the trail and shoot a few photos. And now I would like to share one with you.

A little foggy and a bit chilly but it sure did warm up. Hard to believe it's December.

Exploration Photography Daily View - September 8, 2015

Hi and welcome to the Exploration Photography Daily View!

I hope you all enjoyed the Labor Day holiday yesterday and were able to take advantage of some extra time off. I spent the morning at Valley Forge on a mini photo shoot. For about the first five or ten minutes there was some dense fog and I was able to capture this beautiful scene.

And right after I shot this the fog lifted the sky brightened and we had a very sunny day.

March 14, 2015 - Photo of The Day

Well the weather forecasters predicted rain for today and rain it did. In fact it rained all last night and most of today. We are still getting on and off showers now. And you probably know what you get when you mix moderate temperatures and rain. Fog. So what I am  sharing with you today is my attempt to capture some of it with my camera phone.

This is the quarry near our house. You can see some fog in the distance and to the right. Later on when it got darker there was a lot more fog but I am not going in a quarry in the dark. Not to mention it was raining at the time.

And now of course we continue our "Amaryllis Watch". It's about an inch taller and I think its getting closer to opening. You can't see it here but the bud is softer and if I try I can open it very slightly.

And before I go here is something I saw today that made me laugh.

November 6, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

What a rainy day. What can I do on a rainy day? How about a little black and white photography? I think the rain and mist go hand in hand with black and white. There's something about the mood I suppose. Something else also goes well with black and white. Trains. Well I had to run out today during work and went by the local trolly station and couldn't resist. And that brings us to today's photo.

This was shot with my Motorola Droid Turbo in color and converted to black and white in Photoshop with some other very minor adjustments thrown in for good measure. As you can tell it was also shot through a chain link fence. One that has very small openings. Instead of cropping the fence out though I chose to keep it in. I think it adds to the picture and mood I am trying to create. You can see the original color version here at the Facebook Group. It is untouched and as it came out of the camera.

I am not a big fan of rain but I try to make the best of it. though I would rather make the best of some sunny and 75 degree weather. Hey that would make a great country song ;)

October 30, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

Well the clouds stuck around for another day with little sun in sight until later in the day. This morning we were also covered with lots of fog. By the time I left for work most of it had lifted but there was still a little left. I shot a couple photos with my Galaxy S4 on my short drive. And yes I was stopped when I took these.

My morning drive is a very short one so I don't always warm my car up as you can tell by my windshield. Maybe I could use new wipers too?

August 23, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

Hey there! I am posting this kind of late but I have had a busy day.

Kim and I drove to Phoenixville this evening for dinner at a restaurant named P J Ryan's Pub. To get there we had to drive through Valley Forge Park. Since it has been a rainy and pretty much gloomy day there was a lot of fog rolling over the hills and fields of the park and I thought it would make for a good photo to share with you. So here you go.

Like I said, it was a gloomy day and it reflects in this picture. Hopefully tomorrow will be nicer.
