Monday View - 28 February 2022 Edition

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today we head back out into the Cafe (aka our yard) and take a look at some birds. Photographing birds can be difficult because they get startled very easily, especially cardinals. So when I got home from work I set my camera on it's tripod, aimed and set it up to shoot a frame every three seconds. In total I got 990 frames. Mostly nothing of course but there was also a lot of good. For today's view I would like to share this good one with you. The tail is a little out of frame but overall I think it's okay.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Today I am shifting from our outdoor Cafe guests to something a little different. I was at Lidle this afternoon picking up some groceries and came across some Spring bulbs. So to start off the season I picked one up. Of course it's staying indoors for the next few weeks but as soon as the weather is a bit warmer I will transplant it into our front garden. Along with many others I'm sure. For today's view I would like to share this shot I made of one of the blooms. This is in one of our front windows that gets afternoon sun and you can see the screen in the background. But at least you can't really see the window that really needs some Spring cleaning.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

Continuing with Mother Nature's mood swings we have once again been having some wild weather. Yesterday morning when I got up my outdoor thermometer read 65° F. By the time I got to work an hour later my car read 50° F and by the time I left at 4 PM it was down to just under 40° F. That doesn't sound like much but when you add in very high winds it feels a lot colder. Then it did get colder. At 6:30 am this morning it was 16° F. But it did warm up, a little. And I took advantage of it and did a little work in the Cafe and afterward took a trip to the Elmwood Park Zoo a few miles away. And as usual it was crowded. It's always crowded. But I did shoot some good stuff. And for today's view I would like to share a some with you.

Welcome To The Exploration Photography Daily View

We have all sorts of guests at the Cafe including many variety of bird and lots of foxes and raccoons. We even see the occasional deer and on quiet nights coyotes can be heard in the distance. But our fan favorite seems to be the humble squirrel. Humble but very entertaining. They seem to love the camera too. I often go out to snap pictures and they literally seem to pose for me. I guess they figure it's a small price to pay for the many peanuts and the abundance of seed they get daily. So for today's view I would like to share this up close and personal view of one of our squirrels.

So yesterday it was a quite mild 64° F with sun and today we are at about 31° F with snow. Mother nature sure is a fickle one. I sure am glad I got a lot done in the garden before the weather turned cold. But as we know cold or not our Cafe friends still come around and still need food and water. And I am happy to say we were able to provide for them. In turn I was able to grab a few pictures. I think that's a fair trade. So for today's view I would like to share this male cardinal waiting for the feeders to be filled. And the snow shower doesn't seem to bother him.

The weather has been very nice here today my friends, very nice indeed! So I took advantage of it and got a lot of work done in the yard. Mainly I mulched our front gardens. I usually do this later in the year when it's hot and I really don't know why. I guess it's just one of those things you don't think about until you do. But anyway, once I was done and relaxing inside for a while some of our squirrels came around to check things out and of course look for peanuts. So I threw some out to them and as they were enjoying a snack I snapped a few pictures. For today's view I would like to share this one.

Today's view was shot at the Norristown Farm Park. Well the house is at the Farm Park but I shot it from a McDonald's across the road. When I got home from work today I went about my daily routine of filling the feeders and making sure there was plenty of fresh water for our guests. And as soon as I put fresh water out the Robins came out of hiding and took advantage of it. Like I've said before, food is very important for wildlife but water is even more important. I have really noticed an increase in bird population since I've been making sure the bird baths and bowls are clean and filled.

Today's view was real close to yesterday's view. And what I mean is that it was in the same tree just a foot or two away. This squirrel was tucked away enjoying a peanut as the woodpecker was perched on the trunk just about to fly over to our dogwood and have some suet. Everyone seems to enjoy the Cafe.

I was sitting in our living room earlier today and I heard a tapping sound coming from outside. Naturally I investigated it and it turned out to be a woodpecker. Not the same one I've seen hanging around lately but a different one. So I grabbed my camera and tried to grab some shots but this is the best I came up with.

I would also like to share a video I shot yesterday at the Norristown Farm Park. I took a quick drive through and ended up walking down to the creek. Have a look if you like and don't mind some of the noise at the beginning. First there was a siren and then the phone mount needs adjusting. The sound at the creek is cool though.

I thought I would be able to sleep until at least 7 am this morning but Schnitzel had a different idea. He decided he needed to go out at 6:30 am. So I figured since I was up I would get dressed and try and grab a sunrise. Well, most of the sky was clear except for the eastern portion where the sun rises. I did grab some shots but most of them are not that good. I was however able to go to another part of the park and grab some nice pictures of the barn and silo from across one of the fields so it wasn't a complete loss. And for today's view I would like to share this one with you.

Today I would like to share another view of the pretty female cardinal I posted yesterday. This was shot at a slightly different angle and with different lighting. As you can see she appears more golden this time due to the sunset. We have lots of cardinals and a lot of females in particular. In fact I would say our population has at least doubled over the past few years. And probably more than that. The Cafe is a special place.
