Welcome To The Thursday View

On Saturday before we visited the zoo Kim and I made a quick stop to check out what I call "the other side of the Farm Park". In reality it is simply another entrance to the Norristown Farm Park that happens to be at the end of a dead end  road. And at this entrance there is a bridge that goes over a set of railroad tracks that I do not believe to be in use anymore. Naturally I grabbed a shot or ten and today I share this one with you.

I felt black and white was fitting for this scene. I think it expresses a different feeling than the original presented below.

Welcome To The Daily View

Switching back to my Valley Forge trip last weekend I would like to share this railroad bridge with you. As you can see there is no clear path to the underpass. In fact the area is blocked off. But when I was a younger person this was not the case. There used to be a set of stairs leading to that right hand side tunnel that was meant for pedestrian traffic. One used to be able to pass under the bridge and get a very nice view of the Schuylkill River.

You can see I tried to add a bit of artistic flair. Nothing much but just a little something.

Technical Info

- Canon 80D
- Sigma DC 18-250mm Lens at 26mm
- Aperture Priority
- Aperture F18
- Shutter Speed 1/50 Second
- ISO (Film Speed) 125
- Center Weighted Average Metering

Post processing was done in Photoshop and within Photoshop I used components of the NIK Collection of filters.

March 4, 2015 - Photo of The Day

For the past few days I have been sharing photos from my Sunday morning shoot along the Schuylkill River. Today I was going to move on to other things but I would like to add one more. Yesterday I showed you the trolley bridge. Today we take a look at the DeKalb Street bridge.

And to prepare us all for the upcoming snow (at least those of us in the northeast) enjoy this short video of Sunday afternoon's snow shower. This one didn't amount to much but I think tonight's may. I guess we'll see soon enough.

And that's it for now folks. Please be safe out there if you have to travel in the snow and be sure to check back soon.

January 26, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

Well here we are bracing ourselves for what cold be a major snowstorm. Here in the suburbs of Philadelphia we are right on the border of a small inconvenience to over a foot of accumulation. I am not sure of how this will time out so this morning when I went to work I brought my camera along just in case there was something interesting to shoot. As it turns out nothing really came up but I did grab a shot on the way in. Today's photo was shot from the side of the road. It was taken from a bridge that crosses over the Pennsylvania Turnpike and shows a railroad underpass. In fact it is the same freight rail line that I shared yesterday.

Thanks for stopping by and if you are in the snow zone please stay safe.

Until Next time...

January 3, 2015 - Photo Of The Day

Hi there! How is everyone? Good I hope. Today was a busy day for me. It started out early this morning with breakfast at one of my favorite places, Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl, Pennsylvania. It is about 40 minutes from where we live. It is always worth the drive and today it was extra good because my breakfast was free since today is my birthday. So Kim and I both had a very full breakfast for the whopping price of $12.65 and that includes tax and tip. Actually there is no tipping because it is included in the price.

Now I have been to Shady Maple dozens of times over the years. It started when my parents took me there as a kid and now Kim and I visit there every now and then. On our drive there today however, when we were about two or three minutes away from the restaurant we noticed a road on our left that had a covered bridge. Well, on our way back we decided to check it out and this is what we found.

This is located at Poole Forge. Poole Forge was, well a forge run from 1775 to 1795 by a man named James Old who refined pig iron he obtained from local furnaces to be sold to local blacksmiths. This was very important for local industry at the time due to strained relations with Great Britain. It is now an historic tourist park. You can read more about Poole Forge here. All those years of driving right by it and this is the first time I have ever noticed it. I wonder what other neat attractions I can find right under my nose.

I am calling it a day now folks but I have more photos I will be sharing soon. And I will also be sharing a couple snapshots on the Facebook group. Check it out if you get a chance. Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time...

December 3, 2014 - Photo Of The Day

Hi all. So going through the shots I made the other day in New Hope I decided that there is at least one more I'd like to share. There is a lot of beautiful scenery in New Hope and the waterfront is no exception. So that is what I have for you today. Please take a look.

This is composed of two images that I merged in Photoshop. It was quite cloudy that day and I would like to re-shoot this with a little sunshine. Perhaps at least a little blue sky. I should really use a tripod too. But I think it came out okay. What do you think?

And that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by and please check back soon.

Until next time...
