It was a hot one today my friends. Temperatures reached into the 80's and it's a little humid too. So when I got home I made sure the bird bath was full of nice cool water. And it didn't take long for visitors to stop by for a dip.

Today in honor of Memorial Day I would like to share some photos I made at Valley Forge National Park. Valley Forge was not only the Winter encampment of General Washington's troops during the early days of the American Revolution but also where the Continental Army became a true professional army. And though there never a shot fired in battle Valley Forge had it's share of death and despair. Today the park is quite a pleasant venue for hiking, picnicking and recreation. And with it being in my backyard it has always been a very special place to me.
All of my photos today are in black and white. I did this to set sort of an historical tone. These first two are General Washington's Headquarters and what I believe was a horse stable.
And these images of the statue of George Washington that stands very close by.

It's been kind of a lazy day around here my friends. I did a little yard work early but just don't feel like doing much. But I did spend some time in the Cafe with my camera. And it sure was busy. In fact it's still packed as I look out the window now. We have everyone from squirrels and bluejays to pigeons, cardinals, blackbirds, robins and at least three variety of woodpeckers and more. And those are just our daytime guests. At night there's raccoons, foxes and deer. For today's view though I would like to share some of our feathered friends at the suet feeder. I have often been told that suet is just for winter feeding but I go through a lot more in the warmer months.

Hi there my friends. How's the weather where you are? It's quite warm here at about 79° F (26° C) and it's very sunny. I decided to take a drive to Morris Arboretum and see if the Rose Garden has opened for the season and much to my delight it has. It was crowded though. Very crowded. As was the entire place. But it was definitely a worthwhile journey as you will see in today's view.

For today's view I would like to shift a little from our regular Cafe guests to something a little different. Years ago I planted a rose bush on a whim and it seems it has done quite well. It blooms every year and is getting bigger. It doesn't get a lot of sun where I put it but it flowers nicely.

So what do squirrels like better than peanuts? Around here it's sunflower seeds. And best of all they are better for them. So I have been putting a couple small piles out at the base of one of the trees at the front of the Cafe and these little guys have been eating them up. Oh the bluejays like them too. For today's view I would like to share a few shots I made this morning. I set the camera very low on a tripod for these.
