We get a lot of guests here at the Cafe. Mostly birds and squirrels. On occasion we will see a groundhog and even a skunk every now and again. I even saw a possum once. But we also see a lot of bees and some wasps. Check out who visited today.
I shot this with my phone so I am glad he was docile. This evening Kim and I headed out to dinner at P F Chang's in Collegeville Pennsylvania and on our trip home we happened upon a rather heavy downpour of rain. Take a look at the video below to see what it was like driving through it.
Continuing with my "Things I've seen" category I would like to share this with you.
I sure don't want to run into whatever bit the corner off of this sign!
Hi and welcome to another early Saturday Daily View. Kim and I are going to be in and out all day so I don't know when else I am going to get a chance to post. Though I may try to do a bonus second Daily View. Maybe. But for now please check this out. Again it's not the most crisp photo I have shared but it's pretty cool.
This bee was pollinating leaves laying in our driveway. And there was more than one bee. Strange huh? And I'm going for now but keep an eye out. I may have more for you later. Until next time...
Hi everyone. Today I would like to share with you a Tale of Three Photos. The story goes like this. I originally set out to re-shoot a photo I shared a week or so ago. The original was done with my camera phone and I wanted to do it again with my canon. I did and here it is.
These tracks carry freight trains. The shot I shared last time showed the other direction.
The second photo is something that came to mind as I was leaving this scene and happens to be about 1000 feet away from from these tracks.
This is of course another set of tracks. These carry passengers though. This line runs from Norristown to Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. The last photo I have for you today is a result of something I have written about before and firmly believe. It is along the lines of "turning around". On many more than a few occasions I have been out shooting and after I am done with the subject at hand as I am walking away I happen upon something cool or interesting that I wasn't expecting. Well cool to me anyway :)
I guess the reason I find this interesting is because it is next to a walking trail, close to the ground and out in the open. It is also super close to a daycare center. At least there are no bees in it anymore.
And there you have it. A Tale of Three Photos. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back soon. Until next time...
It's Friday and that means another "retro" photo. Well, I use the term retro loosely because some of the pictures I will be sharing will not be all that old. Some will be but not all of them. Today's photo is from last year at Jenkin's Arboretum in Devon, Pennsylvania. It is a closeup of a bee that I shot with my smart phone. A Samsung Galaxy S4. I had just purchased it and was trying it out. I must say I am impressed about how far camera phones have come. I don't think that can or will replace DSLR's any time soon but the quality is amazing.
Now there are countless reasons why a camera phone cannot replace a "regular" camera. The biggest one in my opinion is sensor size. The sensors on a cell phone camera are much smaller than that of a DSLR or even a dedicated point and shoot. Therefore they can't capture as much information and in turn cannot produce as large of an image. Sort of like how old 110 cameras were not as good as 35mm film cameras. And don't even get me started on Disc cameras :)
Before I go i would like to share one more photo with you. The sunrise today was so beautiful I could not resist. Take a look.
Hey there! It's been a few weeks or so since my last post so let's get right into it. Sound good? Okay then let's go!
The weather has been cool here for a few days. Very unusual for August. I'm not complaining but I sure hope this isn't a sign of another cold Winter.
Anyhow, taking advantage of the cooler air and low humidity I got up and took a drive over to Jenkin's Arboretum. It made for a nice comfortable walk around the grounds. And to make things even better I was the only one there. Not another person in sight. Nice! This all added up to a great opportunity to photograph. Today I would like to share some of my work with you. For today's trip I tried to concentrate on the small stuff. Instead of shooting everything from landscape to flowers to birds I just walked through the trails looking at the things I may have passed by any other day. I Don't know how well that went but here are the results. I hope you enjoy some of these.
Jenkin's Arboretum is one of my favorite local places to relax and photograph. It's beautiful and very peaceful. It's also free! They do however have optional memberships and I plan on joining to do my part in supporting such a wonderful place. If you are in the area I highly recommend you check it out. You won't be sorry. Click here for the website.
And since you are checking out other websites please take a look at my Flickr page and my 500px page. Here you will see the photos you see here plus many more. I hope you enjoy them.
