Well it's the last day of January and it sure is a cold one. And windy too. But despite the frigid weather Kim and I took a drive to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Once there we spent most of our time in the Conservatory. It's always warm in there! Today I share with you a small sampling of the photos I captured. And a couple of extras too. So here you go and please choose your own favorite for a photo of the day.
And as for the extras I would like to share two videos. For some reason I am having trouble posting videos here on the blog. I can however post links to them on my YouTube Channel. Please follow the links below or as an alternative you can go directly to YouTube and search for me using "lwment" and clicking on my name, Larry Miller.
This first video is a time lapse of our drive to Longwood. It is a 38 minute trip condensed to about 2 minutes.
The Road To Longwood
And this second video shows 30 seconds of one of the waterfalls in the Conservatory.

And that's it for today folks. Thanks so much for stopping by and please come back soon to see more of our trip to Longwood.

January 30, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
It's Friday and that means another "retro" photo. Today we go back to October of 1992 and to one of my favorite places to shoot. Valley Forge National Park. This was created with my Canon T50 35mm SLR and scanned some years ago to digital.
I always think about recreating this with more modern equipment and a few more years of experience. I really love the composition.
Thanks for stopping by and please be sure to come back soon.

January 29, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
With all of the snow I have been sharing with you lately I thought it might be a nice change of pace to see a little sunshine. Looking outside now you wouldn't know that we had such a beautiful morning. It was cold. About 10° cold. But the sun was shining and the sky was awesome. I hope that the photo that I am sharing conveys that beauty.
One of the hard parts of working with the raw files that come out of my camera is knowing when they have had enough adjustments. I will often look at a "finished" product and literally have to walk away for a bit and go back later to decide if I really like the outcome. In most of my work I try to faithfully reproduce the scene as I saw it while also adding a little personal touch. I hope that I have accomplished that today. Please have a look and let me know what you think. I'm really on the fence about this one.
Thanks for checking out my blog and please be sure to stop back again. Also check out the Facebook Group.

January 28, 2015 - Photo of The Day
The other day while I was out shooting in the snow I grabbed a few shots of a man made lake that is located in all places a corporate park. Okay it was a lot more than a few shots but you know what I mean. I am still going over what I captured but would like to share this with you today.
This was created using five exposures that were combined in Photoshop. I will post the originals on The Facebook Group located here. Please check it out.
Thanks as always for stopping by.

January 27, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
Well the major snow storm missed us. We got a little, maybe 2-3 inches, but nothing to speak of. I feel fortunate because I know there are a lot of people in the northeast that got a LOT more. And the snow that we did get was very powdery and easy to move.
In following yesterday's theme I would like to share a photo of my drive into work today. I was able to stop my car in the roadway and shoot this.
The main roads were a lot clearer than this.
And that my friends was the extent of our "storm". Of course there are a couple more on the way. I don't know what the weather forecasters are calling for yet so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for visiting.

Well here we are bracing ourselves for what cold be a major snowstorm. Here in the suburbs of Philadelphia we are right on the border of a small inconvenience to over a foot of accumulation. I am not sure of how this will time out so this morning when I went to work I brought my camera along just in case there was something interesting to shoot. As it turns out nothing really came up but I did grab a shot on the way in. Today's photo was shot from the side of the road. It was taken from a bridge that crosses over the Pennsylvania Turnpike and shows a railroad underpass. In fact it is the same freight rail line that I shared yesterday.
Thanks for stopping by and if you are in the snow zone please stay safe.

January 25, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
Hi everyone. Today I would like to share with you a Tale of Three Photos. The story goes like this. I originally set out to re-shoot a photo I shared a week or so ago. The original was done with my camera phone and I wanted to do it again with my canon. I did and here it is.
These tracks carry freight trains. The shot I shared last time showed the other direction.
The second photo is something that came to mind as I was leaving this scene and happens to be about 1000 feet away from from these tracks.
This is of course another set of tracks. These carry passengers though. This line runs from Norristown to Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
The last photo I have for you today is a result of something I have written about before and firmly believe. It is along the lines of "turning around". On many more than a few occasions I have been out shooting and after I am done with the subject at hand as I am walking away I happen upon something cool or interesting that I wasn't expecting. Well cool to me anyway :)
I guess the reason I find this interesting is because it is next to a walking trail, close to the ground and out in the open. It is also super close to a daycare center. At least there are no bees in it anymore.
And there you have it. A Tale of Three Photos. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back soon.

Well they called for snow and snow it did. Only a few inches though. But what it lacked in inches it sure made up for in weight. It was very wet and very heavy and I sure did not enjoy shoveling. The upside to all of this is that it happened overnight and by morning the storm was gone. And the roads were all cleared so driving wasn't a problem at all. After running our regular Saturday errands Kim and I drove through Valley Forge and I grabbed a few shots. And that is what I am sharing with you today.
After all of the clouds we had today the skies finally cleared and I was able to grab this shot of the moon.
As always I thank you for stopping by. please be sure to come back soon.

Friday is usually my retro day but today I am changing it up a little. Today would have been my Father's 89th Birthday and in his honor I would like to post this morning's beautiful sunrise. It reminds me that he is up there watching over me. Happy Birthday Dad :)
And being that the sun is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old it doesn't get much more retro than that.

Yesterday I showed you our rhododendron with a nice dusting of snow. And that is about all we got. Slightly more than a dusting. It was pretty while it lasted but today's the temperatures got up to just over 40° and there is practically no sign it ever even happened. So I thought it would be a nice contrast to share a couple photos of the rhododendron without the snow. I was also going for some closeups and think these turned out nice considering I was hand holding the camera.

It's gonna snow they said. 1-4 inches they said. They lied! And I am not complaining one bit. We got just enough to look pretty without the need to do any serious shoveling. How about you? Did you get any snow? If so how much?
So when I got home from work I grabbed my camera to shoot some photos of our rhododendron which was lightly dusted. And for today's photo(s) I would like to share these with you.
As always I thank you for stopping by. Please be sure to come back soon. You never know what you might see :)

So I get up this morning thankful that it is Wednesday. Only problem is that is really Tuesday. Oh well just a little bit off :) On the plus side we had a pretty nice sunrise. And that is what I will share with you today.

Happy Monday everyone! Today I had one of those rare get out of the office days. And to make it even better I got to drive into the city. Now normally this wouldn't be a good thing but today it was because where I was going was around the corner from my favorite cheesesteak shop. I don't get there a lot because it is kind of a drive so getting lunch there was a treat. So for today's photo I share with you Steve's Prince of Steaks.
Thanks for visiting folks. I'll see you real soon.

Well another weekend is winding down and it's back to work tomorrow. That's okay though. At least I have a job to go to. I know that there a lot of people out there that are less fortunate than me. Anyway, I had some plans to go out today and shoot but mother nature had different ideas. Namely rain. A lot of rain. So I didn't go out like I wanted to and as a result I will be sharing one more photo from yesterday's trip to Lancaster. So here you go. This was shot with my camera phone on our way to Kitchen Kettle Village on one of the back roads.
I am also going to show you a one minute video I shot on our way home. It's nothing special really. I was just testing some settings on my phone. But here you go anyway.
So that's my rainy day post. Not what I wanted to share but not that bad I guess. Thanks so much for stopping by and please be sure to come back soon.

January 17, 2015 - Photo of The Day
For the second time in two weeks Kim and I drove out to Lancaster County and had lunch at Miller Smorgasbord. And three weeks ago we were in the area for lunch at Shady Maple Smorgasbord. That's a lot of driving! There is a good reason though. For three weeks we have been trying to get together with my Sister Kathy and her husband Joe to celebrate our birthdays. Her's is December 29 and mine is January 3. The first week the weather was just too bad for Kathy to drive all the way from Philadelphia and last week she had to work. Well as they say the third time is a charm because we finally got together today. And we had a wonderful time. There was lot's of food and lot's of talking with one another. I think we spent nearly two hours there. And naturally I had my camera with me so after we were done eating Kathy and I both shot some pictures of the farms that sit behind the restaurant. You can take a look at Kathy's here at her blog and here are a few of mine.
This is a panoramic made up of four separate photos.
These of course are a couple of farms.
Also, check out this quick 10 second video. Just your typical Saturday afternoon in Lancaster County traffic.

And that was our Saturday. It was a few weeks in the making but it was worth it. I would like to thank Kathy and Joe for making the trip and having lunch with Kim and me. We both had a very nice time. And now I am wrapping it up. I'll be back soon with more to share. Please be sure to visit again.

January 16, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
It's Friday and that means today is "retro" day. A couple weeks ago I shared three photos from Las Vegas, Nevada in February of 2004. Today I would like to share three more.
The first one is another nighttime shot. This is the Mirage Casino Hotel.
And here is one taken earlier in the evening. This is the Stardust which of course is no longer there.
And this last one was shot during the day. This time we are looking at the Sahara and the Stratosphere. At the top of the Stratosphere is a roller coaster and a free fall ride. There is also a revolving restaurant that offers a great view of the city. It is especially nice at night with all of the Vegas lights showing. The tower stands 1,149 feet high.
All of these photos were shot on film with my Nikon N80 and scanned so I could share them here.
And that's all for today folks. I hope you enjoyed this quick Vegas trip. Please come back soon to see what else I have to share.

Today's post is going to be a quick one. So let's get right to the photo. This is a tree on our street. I was standing under it the other evening and happened to have my camera in hand. As many of you probably know I have a thing for bare trees. I love to be able to see the way their branches bend and twist. And I really like this the way this shot came out.
And I'll be back soon with more to share. Please be sure to stop back.

January 14, 2015 - Photo Of The Day
Continuing with yesterday's theme I am sharing a few photos from Pawling's Farm on New Years Eve. Today we take a look at the barn. I didn't shoot all the way around but I think I got a few good one's here.
I may try to get over there again soon and get some more shots. I also need to do some research about the farm and see what I come up with. Unfortunately a quick Google search didn't show much but I'm sure there is something out there.
And I'll be back real soon with more folks. Thanks for stopping by.

January 13, 2015 - Photo of The Day (And Then Some)
Hey there! Welcome to my blog. And if your a previous visitor, welcome back! For today's post I am doing another "pick your own" photo of the day. I have been working with some photos that I shot on New Years Eve at Pawling's Farm in Valley Forge and instead of doing one giant post I figured I'd break it down into a few smaller ones. How's that sound?
So to start out I am sharing photos of what was once a farm house. It is now in ruins but there are signs of at least a little restoration. I have posted shots of the house before but this time I went all around it. Take a look.
As I look at the house I try to imagine a time when it was lived in. When it was someone's home. How many people has this front door seen? What are your thoughts? I would love to hear them.
As always I am glad you stopped by and invite you to come back and see what else I have to share.
Until next time...

January 12, 2015 - Photo of The Day
Hello everyone and happy Monday! We have had a very rainy start to the work week here. But it seems that after a couple more days there should be a slight warming trend. Nice!
Today I am going to share a couple more shots I made in Lancaster. the first one is a panorama made up of two frames.
And this is a little closer view of one of the many farms.
And I think that may wrap it up for photos from this trip. It was very cold and I didn't shoot as much as I would have liked. There may be one or two more but I don't know. But it definitely wraps it up for today.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
